In 2003, our manufacturing facility was established in the South Industrial Park of Terre Haute, Indiana. Beginning with just one assembly line, a handful of employees and 58,000 square feet, the company has grown to over 450 employees and 224,000 square feet. In addition, we have an office on northeast side of Indianapolis where the Procurement and Supplier Development Department, Business Development and Product Engineering are now located. We have a third location in Troy, Michigan which houses our Sales Engineering, Logistics Distribution Center for USA, and Customer Resident Engineering.

Your responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Plans and conducts the analysis, inspection, test and/or integration to assure the quality of assigned product or component.

  • Ensures compliance with all applicable quality standards (IATF 16949, customer requirements etc.) beginning with the quotation until start of production.
  • Reduces the production risk by ensuring the application of preventive quality tools (e.g. FMEA, APQP, customer specific tools etc.) as well as moderating the creation of these.
  • Participates in the creation of the design and process FMEA, and inputs lessons learned from similar projects and the customer specific requirements.
  • Coordinates the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) with the customer in cooperation with the product development team and the plant. Reviews and approves PPAP document before submission to customer.
  • Responsible to creating and submitting IMDS to customers.
  • Analyzes the customer specific quality requirements and ensures their implementation.
  • Reviews project and process documents for alignment.
  • Ensures that project quality project review tasks are proactively tracked and completed in timely manner.
  • Manages customer rejects and complaints (Problem resolution management) before start of production.
  • Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
  • Documents data obtained during all quality assurance activities, consistent with company policies and procedures.
  • Responsible that all applicable customer portals are updated and regularly addressed.
  • Defines incoming quality checks and supplier requirements for prototype components.
  • Support with complaints to suppliers if prototype parts are concerned.
  • Creates or approves prototype control plans together with the project team.
  • Performs quality buy off on prototypes (functional builds), documents any non-conformances and follows through deviation approval process as necessary.
  • Ensures that control concepts do exist and that customer specific measurement instruments are available (e.g. gage list).
  • Participates at type integrations, initial sample production (and start of production) runs.
  • Applies statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data to evaluate the current process and process changes.
  • Contributes actively to the reduction of failure costs like scrap and rework.
  • Develops new approaches to solve problems identified during quality assurance activities.
  • Communicates significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provides recommended process improvements to management.
  • Prepares reports to communicate involvement and results of quality assurance activities.
  • Prepares and presents technical and program information to team members and management.
  • Directs technical and administrative workers engaged in quality assurance activities.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of government and industry quality assurance codes and standards.
  • Stops production in case of a non-conformity.
  • Is responsible for housekeeping and 5S in their working areas.
Your profile

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in an engineering field of study or equivalent experience in automotive experience preferable in steering column manufacturing.
  • Experience applying statistical process control (SPC) methods for analyzing data and evaluating current process and process changes.
  • Experience leading and managing the quality solving process (8D) towards the customer.
  • Experience leading projects for reducing or eliminating scrap, defects, reworks and warranty.
  • Experience in presenting technical and project information to team members, management and customers.
  • Understanding of GD&T
