ShopGoodwill.com is the first e-commerce platform created, owned, and operated by a nonprofit organization. Today, more than 130 Goodwill organizations from around the United States and Canada list and auction unique items on the site, including art, antiques, collectibles, apparel, jewelry, electronics, and more. Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana provides an engaging online shopping experience on this site and other online destinations to further Goodwill's mission of helping people who are facing barriers in finding jobs.

The eCommerce Valuation Associate assists the management team in reaching the operational goals of the site by evaluating incoming merchandise and determining how to showcase maximum value by either grouping collections or deciding upon an individual placement on the auction website(s). The environment is production- and safety-focused with a culture that values mutual respect, support, growth, positive team spirit, and family. All positions have hourly quotas to reach.

Hours of Operation: 7AM-6PM, Monday through Friday and Saturday, 7AM-3:30PM

** There are a variety of working shifts available which also may include occasional overtime hours.

Example Duties and Activities

  • Critically evaluates merchandise; uses best practices to achieve maximum value for each donation in an eCommerce auction environment, including but not limited to grouping merchandise together.

  • Navigates the Internet and utilizes Google Lens to research products. Reviews information and makes conclusions based on research.

  • Follows all process instructions accurately for valuating merchandise.

  • Meets and surpasses hourly production quotas.

  • Maintains clean and orderly work area.

  • Cross-trains in other areas to build skill base and value within the department.

  • Technical Knowledge - Has proficient knowledge of G Suite, MS Office, and internet navigation. Knowledgeable in search engine optimization, including the use of Google Lens.

  • Teamwork - Works well with others and makes valued contributions to the outputs of others in order to assist the team or project to achieve the required outputs.

  • Ethical - Adheres to procedures and protocol, including maintaining confidentiality in passwords, logging on and off procedures, and adherence to Goodwill's values.

  • Mathematical Aptitude - Adds and subtracts two-digit numbers and multiplies and divides with 10s and 100s. Is able to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.

Preferred Competencies

  • Valuation Expertise - Has knowledge of the value of antique, vintage, and designer products including jewelry, artwork, furniture, dishes, etc. Possesses a refined eye for identifying products that are collectibles. Understands and stays current on marketplace trends. Has a thirst for knowledge and applies it appropriately. Compelled to find answers through research and collaboration. Not afraid to make conclusions based on trends, research, and feedback to continually improve one's knowledge base.

  • Inventory Management - Has utilized a structure for accounting for electronic and physical inventory for an organization. Conducts counts and compares actual physical and online inventory numbers. Discovers and corrects discrepancies. Communicates and provides reports to stakeholders.

  • The employee is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to manage repetitive movement. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Can manage prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer or handheld scanner. Some exposure to moderate noise and temperature variations and working with constant overhead fluorescent lighting.

  • Visual Acuity - Has close, distance, peripheral, color vision abilities, depth perception, and is able to adjust focus.

  • Minimum of 18 years of age
