Job Description

EMCS, Inc. seeks Project Manager - Structural/Hydraulic Engineering to:

  • Develop understanding of project objectives, develop strategies for team selection, and provide technical input on project proposals.
  • Lead the development and documentation of project scope, estimates, price negotiation, and project schedule and ensure that the executed project contract accurately reflects the understood scope, work effort, schedule, and deliverables.
  • Develop and monitor project schedule and budget, prepare monthly invoices, and prepare amendments.
  • Coordinate project workplans to balance staff utilization and report changes in project plans, budget, deliverables, or schedules.
  • Develop project quality assurance plans and provide timely review to ensure project completion.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and determine staff assignments.
  • Communicate project status, gain client input, and resolve significant project issues or other areas of conflict which may arise during the delivery of the project.
  • Prepare and submit bridge hydraulic scour analyzes per state and local guidance.
  • Calculate and review load ratings on bridges constructed of various materials, including prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, and steel beam bridges with AASHTOWare BrR software.
  • Calculate and review load ratings on bridge culvert structures.
  • Utilize advanced finite element software for the design of complex structures such as curved steel girders, concrete box girders, and straddle bent designs.
  • Utilize design software to design typical prestressed beam bridges.
  • Utilize Mathcad software to complete design calculation for various bridge elements, such as bridge bearings and railing designs.
  • Calculate and tabulate the total quantities on a bridge utilizing Excel, well as Bid Tabs to determine total project costs.
  • Perform bridge plan detailing and review utilizing MicroStation and AutoCAD.
  • Compile and develop recurring and unique specifications.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineers and professionals and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Investigate software improvements/enhancements and communicate requests and suggestions. 
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of standards within the structural service area.
Minimum requirements: Master's degree in civil engineering with emphasis in structures plus 4 years of experience in a civil engineering role performing hydraulic scour analyses and load rating. Alternatively, employer would also accept a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering plus 6 years of experience in a civil engineering role performing hydraulic scour analyses and load rating. In addition, the following qualifications and experience are required:
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Indiana; or ability to obtain within 6 months.
  • INDOT Qualified Load Rating Engineer (LRE) or ability to obtain qualification within 6 months.
  • INDOT Prequalified Engineer for Bridge Hydraulic Design (17.4) or ability to obtain qualification within 6 months.
  • 4 years of experience with bridge design, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design utilizing the current AASHTO Standards.
  • 4 years of experience with complex bridge analysis utilizing finite element modeling software, AASHTOWare BrR, and CANDE design software to complete the design or load rating of bridges or buried structures.
  • Experience with project budgets and schedules on at least 5 projects following INDOT Design Manual Chapter 14.
Background check, including verification of valid driver’s license, required. Job involves 20% domestic travel to client sites.
