JOB DESCRIPTION: Direct Material Buyer is responsible for acquiring and evaluating direct material purchases. This position will be responsible for identifying new and innovative direct material products, services and solutions to meet the needs of the business. Other responsibilities for Direct Material Buyer will be responsible for liaising with suppliers and other internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the right direct material products and solutions are acquired.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for acquiring a wide variety of direct materials, supplies and services relating to and /or supporting the company's manufacturing environment.

  • Processes purchase requisition, obtains and negotiates quotations, evaluates bids, and makes awards consistent with department objectives.

  • Develops and qualified new supply and vendor sources, and continually monitors their performance.

  • Coordinates purchasing activities with other departments to insure and maintain established inventory levels.

  • Ensure high quality goods by monitoring costs, schedules, and delivery performance.

  • Responsible for annual purchases for various commodities and suppliers.

  • Works with general (mid-level) and limited senior level supervision within generally accepted purchasing and departmental guidelines. From new product launch through end of production and service.

  • Individual judgment and initiative are exercised in resolving problems and making recommendations; consults with managers on unique or difficult issues.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND ABILITIES:

  • Bachelor's degree in Purchasing or Business related preferred but not required.
  • 5 years relevant experience and working knowledge of JD Edwards MRP module a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required.
  • Strong attention to detail and financial aptitude with working knowledge of Microsoft Office module, excel, word, power point.
