Camp Achieve is a day camp for children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder between the ages of 6 and 12 that provides innovative programming and therapeutic recreational activities to improve the social, behavioral, and academic skills of autistic students. The Recreation Specialists are responsible for developing, scheduling, and coordinating recreational activities.

Recreation Specialists will participate in training before camp begins from May 22 to June 5, 2024, including certification in Professional Crisis Management. Camp will occur from June 6 to July 17, 2024, with parent conferences occurring on July 18 and final reporting and clean up occurring on July 19. Designated university holidays will be observed.

The Autism Day Camp Recreation Specialist is responsible for developing, scheduling, and coordinating recreational activities.

HS diploma or GED.

1. Experience working in a camp.

1. Must be able to stand/walk/kneel for long periods of time.

2. Possess strong judgment and critical thinking skills.
3. Possess the ability to make independent decisions in a fast-paced environment.
4. Possess the ability to problem solve in a proactive manner and make decisions around participant safety and well-being.
5. Possess the ability to work cooperatively with others.
6. Possess the ability to relate/work well to children with autism spectrum disorders and their families.
7. Willingness to participate in staff development activities, as assigned.

8. Must have ability to obtain university-approved First Aid/CPR certification, when assigned.
9. Must earn certification in Professional Crisis Management (Training provided during first week of training.).
10. Must me 18 or older
11. Proficient spoken and written English skills.

Supervise the Autism Day Camp scheduling and logistics of recreational activities including collaboration with Autism Day Camp Directors.

Develop and/or coordinate camp recreational activities.

Assist in supervision of Autism Day Camp staff.

Collaborate with Autism Day Camp Counselors to develop individualized recreational activities.

Assist in monitoring physical, social, emotional, and intellectual development of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Collaborate with Camp Directors to oversee use and maintenance of camp supplies, equipment, and facilities.

Serve as role model to all campers and staff with professionalism and positive attitude.

Provide leadership to campers and staff in emergency situations.

Assist campers with activities of daily living (ADL). ADL's include, but are not limited to, dressing, toileting, and eating.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Maintain regular and predictable attendance.
