Job Description
The Automation Leader position is responsible for guiding SCS on the integration of automation tools, practices, and processes, enhancing the capability of SCS processing for new and existing coating applications.  This position manages, and integrates the use of automation tools and processes on a global platform. This position requires close partnership with Applications Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and site leaders to ensure the strategic and tactical implementation of part tooling, part manipulation, and masking for new and existing applications.  The Automation Leader balances business strategies against results and application needs, integrating automation tools and knowledge to achieve results.  This position also provides training, education, leadership and mentoring to others to identify and successfully execute automation and simplification projects.  This position may have direct reports.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Leads project teams and oversees improvement events across multiple facilities.  Employs a variety of automation tool options resulting in reduced costs, improved quality, and reduced turnaround time.
  • Provides education on automation philosophies, tools, and opportunities. Trains and mentors others on successful implementation of complex projects.
  • Participates in overall coating process discussions to help simplify stems and then apply automation tools where applicable.
  • Possess the ability to identify processing steps where automation tools can be applied profitably, and manage resource allocation as related to cost and target project output.
  • Understand the cost/benefit of automation tool integration vs. improved manual process and be able to participate in creating tools or systems that enhance the overall process output.
  • Be able to envision new places for automated steps or automated series of steps.
  • Provide guidance to the organization on new automation tools and technology, and how they could enhance SCS process capabilities.
  • Integrate existing automation equipment to new process development to keep development time and cost under control.
  • Possess the ability to create new equipment and hardware that will assist in the integration of automation tools, or provide for the ability to realize enhanced process capability.
  • Lead the enhancement of current SCS tools and associated software.
  • Standardizes automation tools and the integration of best practices between all SCS global sites.
     
    ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Listen to all levels of employees to gather ideas and insights, be able to organize into practical strategies and tools.
  • Lead others in expanding beyond conventional thinking to integration of automation tools and sophisticated systems.
  • Support Lean events where required, providing input on automation and tooling concepts raised by the teams.
  • Adheres to plant and corporate safety policies.
  • Travels to other facilities to provide training, leadership and guidance.
  • Assists in other areas or perform other duties as required by business needs.
 
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
 
Bachelor's in engineering or other related discipline, with 5+ years of experience in integration of equipment and tooling design into manufacturing or other processes.  Program Management and Lean experience preferred. Possess and maintain a valid US driver's license and US passport.
 
 
BASIC SKILLS:
 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in project leadership and project management.
  • Ability to manage several projects concurrently, providing leadership and delegation, but also being a team contributor to the project tasks as required.
  • Fluent in 3D CAD software.  Design and automation tool proficiency (e.g. CAD, PLC, etc.)
  • Ability to manage creation of tools and parts through machining, 3D printing, or other manufacturing processes.
  • Possesses excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.  Ability to influence others and act as a change agent.
  • Possesses high degree of professionalism.
  • Demonstrates effective training skills.  Possesses competency in providing well-constructed and engaging presentations to groups from various level in the organization.
  • Solves complex problems while taking broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
  • Computer proficiency (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, etc.).
  • Self-motivated; demonstrates high energy and able to work with minimal supervision.
