Job Description
GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB:
 
This position leads and manages the automation and improvement efforts globally for applications development and the coating centers. Works closely with Applications Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Operational Excellence, and site leaders to ensure the strategic and tactical implementation of part tooling, part manipulation, and masking for new and existing applications. Also, the Automation Leader understands business strategies, culture and work, and uses this knowledge to achieve results. Provides training, education, leadership and mentoring to others to identify and successfully execute automation and simplification projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
· Translates strategic direction of the business unit and implements action plans to meet the needs of the business and key stakeholders.
· Leads project teams and oversees improvement events across multiple facilities.  Employs a variety of automation options resulting in reduced costs, improved quality, and reduced turnaround time.
· Works closely with the Global Business Leaders, Plant Managers and productivity personnel to achieve automation objectives.  Influences others to ensure culture and process change.
· Provides education on automation philosophies, tools and opportunities. Trains and mentors others on successful implementation of complex projects.
· Identifies automation opportunities across the business unit and develops robust event/project strategies with appropriate risk profiles.
· Benchmarks best practices between the sites as well as outside of the company.
· Standardizes best practice automation approaches between the sites.
 
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
· Serves as a member of the company-wide Operational Excellence Governance Council providing input and updates on automation and simplification efforts.
· Support Lean events where required, providing input on automation and tooling concepts raised by the teams.
· Adheres to plant and corporate safety policies.
· Travels to other facilities to provide training, leadership and guidance.
· Assists in other areas or perform other duties as required by business needs.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
 
Bachelor's in engineering or other related discipline, with 7+ years of experience in equipment and tooling design using a team based approach.  Program Management and Lean experience preferred. Possess and maintain a valid US driver's license and US passport.

· Demonstrates effective training skills.  Possesses competency in providing well-constructed and engaging presentations to groups from various level in the organization.
· Solves complex problems while taking broad perspective to identify innovative solutions.
· Computer proficiency (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Lotus Notes, etc.)
· Design and automation proficiency (e.g. CAD, PLC, etc.)
· Self-motivated; demonstrates high energy and able to work with minimal supervision.  
· Demonstrated proficiency in project leadership and project management.
